After reading the article on Great American History and another article on wikipedia titled American Civil War I think I am ready to make my ranking.
1. The Presidential election of Lincoln was the final straw so to speak. He wanted to avoid war and just "allow slavery to die a slow, inevitable death"(Leidner). Lincoln and the unrest caused fear to grow.
2. States' Rights were used to defend slavery. The Northerners wanting to control the southern states and the Southern states were in fear of loosing their political power.
3. Slavery was an economic and a moral issue. Had it not been for slavery the secession may not have happened. But I don't think so.
4. Economic differences were many. Tariffs, the 3/5 clause, the invention of the cotton gin, the split over slavery all played large part in the war.
5. Rise of Abolition Movement in which abolitionists "were willing to make war in order to put an immediate end to the institution of slavery" (Leidner). A large amount of people had never seen a slave or even knew about slaves.
